Smoke extractor hoods for the kitchen are an appliance that any home must have; this is represented by the Technical Building Code in Spain.

As proposed by the CTE, within its technical instruction HS 3 INDOOR AIR QUALITY, in point 3.1.1 of the Basic Document in the HEALTH section.  Below you can read a part of that technical instruction:

"3.1.1 Dwellings

1 Homes must have a general ventilation system that can be hybrid or mechanical with the following characteristics:

a) the air must circulate from the dry to the humid premises, for this the dining rooms, the bedrooms and the living rooms must have admission openings; toilets, kitchens and bathrooms must have extraction openings; the partitions located between the premises with admission and the premises with extraction must have passage openings

b) the premises with various uses of those of the previous point, must have the corresponding openings in each area destined for a different use

c) as intake openings, there will be openings equipped with aerators or fixed openings of the carpentry, such as micro-ventilation devices with air permeability according to UNE EN 12207:2017 in the opening position of class 1 or higher; however, when the exterior joinery is air permeability class 1 according to UNE EN 12207:2017, the opening joints can be considered as intake openings

d) when the ventilation is hybrid, the intake openings must communicate directly with the outside

e) the aerators must be arranged at a distance from the ground greater than 1.80 m

f) when any room with extraction is compartmentalized, passage openings must be provided between the compartments; the extraction opening must be arranged in the most contaminated compartment which, in the case of toilets and bathrooms, is the one in which the toilet is located, and in the case of kitchens, it is the one in which the cooking zone is located ; the passage opening that connects with the rest of the house must be located in the least contaminated place

g) extraction openings must be connected to extraction ducts and must be arranged at a distance from the ceiling of less than 200 mm and a distance from any corner or vertical corner greater than 100 mm

h) the same extraction duct can be shared by toilets, bathrooms, kitchens and storage rooms."
